Valentine’s Day, Shivaratri & Holding Space for Heavy Hearts

Today, I write about a day often wrapped in red roses, grand gestures, and outward expressions of love. But if you are celebrating Valentine’s Day with ease and excitement, this may not be the message meant for you.

Today is for the souls sitting in quiet contemplation.

For the women walking through relationship hardships. For the single women feeling the weight of another February. For those experiencing their first Valentine’s Day without a loved one. For the mothers who pour devotion into their children, creating warmth and magic, while quietly feeling unseen — I see you. I honour you. I hold space for you.

This year, Valentine’s Day arrives alongside Shivaratri — the sacred night of transformation, surrender, and awakening. Shivaratri teaches us that true power is not always loud. It lives in stillness. In the pause. In the silent conversations between the heart and the Divine.

If the bold declarations of love do not arrive at your doorstep this year, know that this does not diminish your worth. You may be carrying grief, loneliness, disappointment, or unanswered prayers. These emotions are not weaknesses — they are invitations. Invitations to soften inward. To sit with truth. To allow healing to unfold in its own divine timing.

Through The Desi Closet, I have learnt something deeply spiritual about womanhood: we are natural carriers. We carry families, emotions, expectations, and often, unspoken pain. We learn to soothe our heartache in silence, mistaking endurance for strength. But Shivaratri reminds us that surrender is also sacred.

So, as we enter the month of love, I am going to attempt a gentle spiritual practice.

Reach out to one woman daily. I would like to invite you to try it along with me.

Not to fix her. Not to advise her. Simply to remind her that she is seen. That her energy matters. That her presence in this world is valued. That she deserves to be celebrated.

It does not matter how long it has been since you last spoke. Energy does not recognise time — only intention.

Send love consciously. Speak light deliberately. Hold space without expectation.

Because when love is offered without condition, it moves beyond the physical. It becomes prayer. And when we move in alignment with love, healing has a way of returning to us — often when we least expect it.

This Valentine’s Day, and this sacred Shivaratri, may you remember that love is not only romantic. It is divine. It is internal. It is found in compassion, in sisterhood, and in the quiet knowing that you are never truly alone.

With love and light,
