Every June, South Africans are inspired by one of the most remarkable events on our calendar: the Comrades Marathon. Thousands of runners spend months preparing for a single day that tests their endurance, resilience, and determination.
As I watched the excitement around this year's race, I found myself reflecting on a simple truth: while I may not be running the Comrades, I am still running a marathon of my own.
Life isn't always about crossing a finish line. More often, it's about showing up consistently for the journey.
Some days, consistency looks like waking up early to exercise, even when motivation is nowhere to be found. Other days, it means choosing water over another cup of coffee, taking a few minutes for self-care, or simply giving yourself permission to rest.
I've learned that success is rarely built in giant leaps. It's built in small, repeated actions that seem insignificant in the moment but become powerful over time.
This month, we also celebrate Youth Day, a reminder of the courage, determination, and hope that have shaped our nation. Youth Day encourages us to think about the future we're creating—not only for ourselves but for the next generation watching us.
As a mother, this resonates deeply with me.
Our children learn far more from what we do than what we say. When they see us prioritizing our health, caring for our wellbeing, pursuing our goals, and treating ourselves with kindness, they absorb those lessons.
One of the ways I practice this is through how I dress.
For me, getting dressed isn't about impressing others. It's about showing up as the person I am working towards becoming. Whether I'm running errands, working on Desi Closet, attending an event, or spending time with family, I believe in dressing for my goals rather than waiting until I've achieved them.
The clothes we wear can influence how we feel. They can remind us of our confidence, our strength, our heritage, and our aspirations.
Just like training for a marathon, becoming the person we want to be doesn't happen overnight.
It happens through consistency.
One workout at a time.
One glass of water at a time.
One act of self-care at a time.
One intentional outfit at a time.
So as South Africa celebrates both the spirit of the Comrades Marathon and Youth Day this June, I invite you to think about your own journey.
You don't have to run 89 kilometres to prove your strength.
You simply have to keep moving forward.
Slowly. Consistently. Purposefully.
Because every step counts.
And every day is another opportunity to become the person you're meant to be.
Stay Motivated!
